Government declares seven crew members missing after SDF helicopter collision in April

The Japanese Defense Ministry declared seven crew members dead on Tuesday. They have been missing since two patrol helicopters of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force crashed during a night exercise in the Pacific in April.

The death toll from the collision rose to eight, and only one body has been recovered so far.

The two SH-60K helicopters, each carrying four MSDF members, crashed on April 20 in waters about 270 kilometers east of Torishima Island in the Izu Island chain.
