Serious accident on I-29 on Monday afternoon

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A multi-vehicle crash at the 50 mile marker on northbound Interstate 29 North caused significant traffic backup and numerous injuries shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 36-year-old Matthew Banks of Oregon, Missouri, was riding a motorcycle north on Interstate 29 when a deer struck the motorcycle.

Banks was thrown from the motorcycle and taken to Mosaic Life Care Hospital with moderate injuries.

Following the motorcycle accident, four other vehicles were involved in an accident at mile 50.

According to the patrol report, Kameron Reeves, 23, of Salina, Kansas, Ginger Coverdell, 74, of St. Joseph, Abbey Williamson, 30, of St. Joseph, and Corlous Bradley, 29, of Savannah, were each traveling north on I-29.

Reeves slowed down due to the previous accident and moved into the passing lane. Coverdell also moved into the passing lane, but crashed into the rear of Reeves’ vehicle.

When Coverdell stopped, Williamson drove into her vehicle.

The patrol reported that Bradley did not realize that Williamson had hit Coverdell and slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting Williamson.

Bradley’s vehicle began to skid and struck Williamson’s, spinning clockwise, going off the east side of the road and striking a railing.

Williamson was admitted to Mosaic Life Care with serious injuries.

Coverdell and a passenger in Bradley’s vehicle, Matthew Jones, 35, were taken to Mosaic Life Care with minor injuries.
