Houston Astros could trade outfielder for elite NL contender

The 2024 MLB season didn’t go the way the Houston Astros hoped. So far this season, injuries have torn the team apart and they are struggling to get by.

At the moment, they are only 30-36 years old. Even though the Astros aren’t out of the playoffs yet, it will be an uphill battle to become a legitimate contender again. With that in mind, many believe Houston could become a seller before the upcoming MLB trade deadline.

Two big names have been mentioned in many different rumors and trade speculations. These two teams are Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker. However, there is another name to watch even more carefully.

That name is center fielder Jake Meyers.

According to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, Houston could end up trading Meyers before the deadline. In fact, it revealed a potential destination. The Philadelphia Phillies could pursue a trade for him.

“I’m going to mention a name that I don’t think has been talked about enough as a possible trade deadline candidate. Jake Meyers in center field. I mention Jake Meyers because he plays exceptionally well. This was in many ways the best year he ever had in the major leagues. »

Morosi then linked the Phillies with a potential trade suitor for Meyers.

“For that reason, for a somewhat struggling Astros team… You look at the way the Phillies may have struggled to get that consistent production out of center field. I would say Jake Meyers is a natural trade for a team like the Phillies.

Meyers will certainly be an interesting name to watch for teams in need of help on the field.

In the 2024 season so far, Meyers has played in 58 games. He hit .263 and added six home runs and 25 RBIs. These numbers are attractive to teams in need of an outfielder.

At 27, Meyers is at the peak of his career. Any team that acquires him will also have control going forward, which would increase the interest level of several different teams.

Hopefully the Astros can start turning their season around and not have to sell their talent. But if that doesn’t happen, a trade involving Meyers seems much more likely than shipping Bregman or Tucker out of town.

Expect to continue to hear rumors regarding Houston as the trade deadline approaches. If things don’t improve, it seems very likely that they will be open to trade negotiations.
