Two men arrested for raping underage sisters in Greater Noida

Greater Noida police arrested two men aged 25 and 23 on Monday on charges of raping two minor sisters aged 13 and 15 and extortion 10 lakh of them through extortion, senior police officials said.

According to police, the suspects, identified as Suraj (25) and Rahul (23), are residents of the village where the victims also live and are under the jurisdiction of Beta-2 police station. The two girls are not enrolled in any school and are staying at home, they added.

“On Sunday, a complaint was received from the girls’ father, alleging that Suraj had raped his elder daughter while Rahul had raped his younger one some time ago and since then he had been blackmailing them and extorting money from them. In his complaint, the father alleged that the suspects had made an inappropriate video of his daughters on the basis of which they had been blackmailing him to pay them money for the last six months. In total Rs 10 lakh has been extorted since January,” said Pawan Kumar, deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida.

Based on the complaint, an FIR under Sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and corresponding sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered at Beta 2 police station, he added.

On Monday, Rahul and Suraj were arrested from their homes. “While Suraj is from Madhya Pradesh, lives in a rented apartment in the village and works in a factory, Rahul is unemployed and lives in the village,” he said.

During the investigation, it emerged that the sisters’ grandfather had sold a plot of land in Greater Noida in December for which he 30 lakhs

“The sisters knew that their grandfather had recently received money. They met the two men in the village in January this year. Upon investigation, it emerged that the sisters had been lured by the two men with false promises of marriage, after which they asked the girls to bring them money. Last week, when their grandfather checked his locker, he found 10 lakh was missing, following which the girls admitted to giving it to the two men,” said a senior investigating officer, adding that a case of rape had been registered against the two men as both the girls were minors.

The two suspects were brought before a judge on Monday and remanded in custody, he added.
