48 days with first weather warning due to extreme heat at the end of this week

Today was a lovely start to the week, with plenty of sunshine in the afternoon and slightly cooler highs of between 27 and 30 degrees. Clear skies are expected by the evening and humidity should be significantly lower, making it perfect for sitting outside on the patio. Temperatures drop quickly after sunset, with overnight lows below average at 13 to 15 degrees.

Plan for a refreshing start to Tuesday and pack some light clothing before heading out. The forecast calls for more sunshine and Tuesday will likely be the best of the work week as highs remain below normal at just over 80 degrees. With the Tennessee Valley still much drier, it will feel quite pleasant to be outside. Skies will remain mostly clear into the evening hours and overnight lows will drop back down to just over 50 degrees.

By Wednesday, winds will shift south, bringing more humidity and higher temperatures around 32 degrees. 48 FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS are now in effect from Thursday through Sunday as a very hot and humid period is heading our way. Highs will rise to 35 to 40 degrees and the heat index may reach 38 degrees by Father’s Day weekend, so heat protection and staying hydrated are very important. Scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible through the weekend, but most places are expected to remain mostly dry.
