Oklahoma man receives life sentence for child sexual abuse

ADAIR COUNTY, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) – An Oklahoma man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing a child, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Jerry Wayne Asbill, 42, of Adair County was sentenced to two life sentences for two counts of aggravated sexual abuse in Indian Country. The two sentences will be served concurrently, the news release said.

Asbill was convicted by a federal grand jury on May 10, 2023.

The government presented evidence during the trial that Asbill sexually abused a child under the age of 12 in November 2018, the press release said.

“The heinous crimes committed against this child warrant the life sentences imposed by the court,” U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Wilson said in the press release. “Violent crimes on Indian lands remain a priority of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and through the continued collaboration of our local, state, tribal and federal partners, we are committed to achieving justice for victims and holding perpetrators like Asbill accountable.”

Asbill remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals and awaits transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons detention facility to serve his sentence without parole, the press release said.
