Carlisle cancels baseball and softball games after fatal accident

WARREN COUNTY, Iowa – Carlisle Wildcat baseball and softball games on Monday have been postponed due to a fatal accident involving students Sunday night.

The post on X reads: “Due to last night’s tragic accident involving Carlisle students, tonight’s baseball/softball games against Boone are postponed…”

The accident occurred just two miles from the Carlisle baseball and softball field. The Iowa State Patrol told WHO 13 News that there was no update as of Monday on the condition of anyone taken to the hospital following the Sunday night accident.

At the scene of the crash on 200th Avenue, the grandparents of one of the hospitalized victims told WHO 13 News that their granddaughter was flown to Iowa City by air ambulance on Monday afternoon. Another person in the car required 60 or more stitches in her arm after breaking through the car’s sunroof. WHO 13 News is working to confirm this information.

The games will be rescheduled for a later date while the Carlisle community awaits further information from authorities on how the accident occurred and how the two are still being treated for their injuries. The ISP said the names of the victims are expected to be released later this week.
