First weather warning: Dangerous heat returns to Arizona this week

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — After three days in a row with maximum temperatures below 43 degrees, a second heat wave in June awaits us from tomorrow until Thursday.

We have declared First Alert Weather Days in parallel with the heat warning, which takes effect from Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to Thursday 8:00 p.m.

As a strong high pressure system builds up over the next few days, temperatures throughout the valley will rise to 43-44 °C.

This extreme heat warning also applies to parts of the Arizona high country below 4,000 feet.

Temperatures in the valley will rise to around 43 degrees on Tuesday and 44 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. These values are only one or two degrees above the record highs for this time of year.

Again, don’t take this extreme heat for granted. You need to replenish your fluids and limit outdoor work by taking frequent breaks in the shade. That’s why we have First Alert: so you can plan your days in advance and protect yourself, your family and your pets in this intense heat.

High pressure will ease somewhat late Thursday and Friday and temperatures will drop a few degrees to just under 41 degrees on Friday.

Windy weather is also expected. Maximum temperatures of almost 43 degrees could prevail again by next weekend.

As a low pressure system moves east of the state, some thunderstorms and showers are possible in the White Mountains and along the I-40 corridor in northeast Arizona through Thursday and Friday.
