Man shot dead by police after allegedly murdering his roommate in Fort Myers

A man was shot and killed by police after allegedly murdering his roommate at a Fort Myers home Sunday night. According to Fort Myers police, police responded to the area of ​​Grand Avenue and Waltman Street around 11:32 p.m., where a woman and two children were hiding in a carport. The woman told police that her husband, 33-year-old Willy Lumaine, killed her roommate in their home. Officers went to the home on Grand Avenue. The front door was open and a trail of blood was coming from the entrance of the home. Lumaine then began smashing a back window with a large knife. He climbed out the window while holding the knife and found what appeared to be a dismembered body, police said. Lumaine refused to drop the knife and approached police. Officers shot him and began providing medical care. Lumaine was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene. Police began a homicide investigation and discovered parts of the roommate’s body inside and outside the apartment. The victim has not been identified at this time. According to Fort Myers police, around 11:32 p.m. Police moved to the area around Grand Avenue and Waltman Streetwhere a woman and two children were hiding in a carport.

The woman told police that her husband, 33-year-old Willy Lumaine, was trying to kill her roommate in their home.

Officers went to the residence near Grand Avenue. The front door was open and a trail of blood was coming from the entrance of the house.

Lumaine then began smashing a rear window with a large knife. He climbed out the window with the knife in his hand and found what appeared to be a dismembered body, FMPD said.

Lumaine refused to drop the knife and went to the police. Officers shot him and began medical treatment. Lumaine was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

Police began investigating the murder and discovered parts of their roommate’s body inside and outside the apartment.

The victim has not yet been identified.

The officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with FMPD policy.
