Hazardous goods incident at Chatsworth commercial building leads to evacuations

Firefighters evacuated a large commercial building in Chatsworth after a “steam cloud” was reported behind the building.

CHATSWORTH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A hazardous materials incident in Chatsworth prompted the evacuation of dozens of people from a commercial building Monday afternoon.

According to LAFD, firefighters and a Los Angeles emergency response team responded to a large one-story building in the 20700 block of W. Marilla Street after an unknown “vapor cloud” was reported behind the building.

The LAFD evacuated 70 people from the building as a precaution.

No injuries were reported and there is no known danger outside the area, the LAFD said. Firefighters kept people away from the area.

Further details were not initially known.

The cause of the steam is unknown.
