Kansas City is under a strict thunderstorm watch

THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING THE FIRST NEWS HERE ON KCWE. I’M JAMIE WEISS KATIE HORNER. SHE AND NICK HAVE BEEN SO BUSY TALKING STORMS FOR THE LAST 45 MINUTES. Hail, what else are we dealing with now? AND VERY STRONG WIND. We keep it extremely tight. WATCH OUT FOR THIS STORM BETWEEN JOHNSON COUNTY AND HENRY COUNTY. IT DRIVES ALONG THE WARM FRONT. WHEN THAT HAPPENS YOU CAN GET SOME BAD WINDS. So we watch for signs of rotation. BUT CURRENTLY MOST OF THE WINDS WE’RE FINDING ARE STRAIGHT LINE, WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 TO 60 MPH, MAYBE EVEN UP TO 70 MPH IS POSSIBLE. THE STORM HAS HISTORICALLY PRODUCED HAIL MORE THAN 5 INCHES IN DIAMETER, AND IT CONTINUES TO TRACK. NOW 45 mph towards Sedalia. So it will arrive in Sedalia. I’ll stop the clock here just to keep it from lurching at 810. Sweet Springs, just a little bit ahead at 805 Coal Camp, 819 Otterville at 826. Lots of lightning. WE HAVE TURNED THE LIGHTNING OFF BECAUSE WE’RE CONSIDERING STORM STRUCTURE, BUT THERE’S ALSO A LOT OF LIGHTNING IN THIS STORM. THE STORMS PASSED KANSAS CITY, BUT NOT BEFORE PUTTING NICKEL TO GOLF BALL SIZED HAIL EVERYWHERE. We had reports of hail measuring two inches in diameter, a little larger than a golf ball. I believe this report came earlier today near Merriam, Kansas. IMMEDIATELY IN YOUR FORECAST TODAY IS A WEATHER WARNING DAY WITH A SEVERE THUNDERSTORY WATCH GOING UNTIL 2:00 PM AS WE TRACK THESE SEVERE STORMS MOVING THROUGH MISSOURI. AT THE MOMENT. AND THEN IT WILL BE CALM IN KANSAS CITY BUT IT’S NOT MADE, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR MORE STOR
