Albemarle City Council honors Brandon Beane

Brandon Beane, Stanly County native and general manager of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, was honored by the Albemarle City Council on May 6 with a resolution recognizing him for his outstanding service and for setting a positive example for students and to the youth of Stanly County.

Mayor Ronnie Michael noted that Beane began his career rising through the ranks of the Carolina Panthers before accepting the general manager position in Buffalo in 2017.

“Things haven’t gone this well since you left (the Panthers),” Michael said. “We need you back.”

The resolution listed a number of accomplishments in Beane’s career, including:

● Having served as assistant general manager of the Carolina Panthers during the 2015 Super Bowl season.

● Having been named a Distinguished Alumnus by UNC-Wilmington.

● Having been named NFL Executive of the Year in 2020.

● Having served as general manager for six playoff seasons and four AFC East Division titles.

● Having been inducted into the Stanly County Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.

● Received the Jack Horrigan Award for Best Media Assistant in the NFL in 2021.

● Having been involved in many charitable causes including United Way, FeedMore WNY and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

Comments from board members focused on Beane’s importance as a positive role model for young people.

“Brandon, if the question were asked, ‘What good can come out of Stanly County?’ one would only need to look at the great work you have done in Buffalo and the work you have done before that in Charlotte,” said Councilman Dexter Townsend.

“Thank you for remembering where you came from and coming back to see us,” added Mayor Pro-Tem Martha Sue Hall.

Councilor David Hunt thanked Beane for his charitable work.

“Congratulations on your professional achievements, but also for the work you have done for charity, here and in New York,” he said.

In accepting the honor, Beane expressed his appreciation for his home county as well as his friends and family.

“It’s always fun to be back in Stanly County, and being here brings back a lot of good memories,” he said, adding, “My success comes from where I grew up and the way I was raised…it’s comforting to still be connected to that. place, and I try to pass on the values ​​that I learned from all the great people here.
