Dunkin’ incident in Rumford, Maine, leads to charges against woman

RUMFORD, Maine – A Mexico Township woman faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening employees at the Dunkin’ in Rumford with a gun.

The alleged incident occurred Wednesday at Dunkin’ on Congress Street, Rumford police said in a social media post.

Rebecca Sims, 33, was charged with threatening with a dangerous weapon and threatening display of a dangerous weapon, the post said.

Employees told police that Sims went to the drive-thru window after closing time and asked to use a phone. When employees refused, Sims allegedly threatened them with a gun.

Employees called 911, but the suspect fled before officers arrived. According to the post, the Maine State Police tactical team helped arrest Sims at gunpoint the next day after a standoff at her home.

Sims was taken to the Oxford County Jail and then to the York County Jail. Her bail was set at $1,000, according to police.

“This is an excellent example of community-police cooperation in apprehending an individual who posed a threat to public safety,” said Rumford Police Chief Tony Milligan. “Although officers were traumatized by the incident, their quick actions likely prevented anyone from being injured or killed. And cooperation with the provider of security video footage captured at a nearby building allowed the suspect to be quickly identified.”

Rumford police were assisted by Mexican police, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police Tactical Team.
