A 32-year-old man was arrested in Thabong. He is one of two men suspected of raping a 12-year-old boy on election day, May 29.

The alleged rapist was arrested on June 5.

“The second rapist is still at large,” says Captain Stephen Thakeng, police media liaison officer in Lejweleputswa.

On 6 June, Welkom Crime Intelligence processed information it had received about a male suspect wanted for murder and robbery in April.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in a house in 2010 Village Thabong.

On June 6, police received further information about a lynching murder, which they investigated. A suspect was wanted for murder by lynching, which followed an incident in which a man accused of raping a minor was killed in Thabong village in 2010. Local residents assisted police, which led to the arrest of the 29-year-old suspect.

In a fourth incident, Welkom police were informed of a most wanted suspect. He is wanted for rape and assault that took place in June. A 31-year-old suspect was arrested from his hideout in Sunrise, Thabong.

All these suspects, who committed serious crimes in Thabong, were arrested by the Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) under the leadership of WO Thabo Booy.

All suspects appeared individually before the Welkom Magistrates Court.
