Mother reveals how she discovered the intruder who sexually abused and choked her was her disturbed ex-husband

Morgan Metzer found herself in a harrowing situation when a masked intruder broke into her home on New Year’s Day 2021, beat, tied up and sexually assaulted her. She believed her ex-husband was trying to win her back. The attacker, who used a voice-distorting device to sound like “something out of Batman,” nearly choked her to death before abruptly ending the attack and fleeing the scene. Based on his comments before leaving, she suspected that it was actually her former husband behind the traumatizing incident. Despite being tied up and half-naked outside, she managed to stay awake, fearing she was going to die from head trauma, and was eventually rescued by her ex-husband.

Rodney, her ex-husband, had quickly come to her aid after allegedly receiving a tip about the break-in from a stranger, but police became suspicious of his quick arrival and found evidence linking him to the robbery. Surveillance footage showed him purchasing zip ties identical to those used on Morgan, and searches of his electronic devices raised further red flags about his intentions. Rodney had manipulatively stalked her after their divorce, even faking a cancer diagnosis to gain pity, and eventually resorted to a violent plan to win her back, which ended with his arrest.

Although Morgan and Rodney’s relationship seemed loving on the surface, their past was filled with manipulation and toxicity. Rodney often tricked her into believing she was the aggressor in their relationship. They had lost a child and later became parents of twins, but their marriage ended in divorce in December 2020. Rodney’s actions indicated a deep-seated need for control and manipulation, evident in his elaborate plans to win her back, which culminated in a violent attack that nearly cost Morgan her life.

Following his arrest, Rodney pleaded guilty to several charges related to the assault and was sentenced to 70 years in prison, with 25 years to be served in prison and the remainder on probation. The Assistant District Attorney described him as a master manipulator who faked a cancer diagnosis and planned to harm his ex-wife before his own death. Fortunately, police were able to intervene before his plans escalated and bring him to justice for his heinous actions. Morgan’s ordeal highlights the devastating effects of domestic violence and the means some people will resort to in order to control and harm their partners.

Following the attack, Morgan spoke about the abuse she endured and the manipulation she faced during her relationship with Rodney. She stressed the importance of providing attention and support to victims of domestic violence and recognizing the warning signs of abusive behavior. Despite the trauma she experienced, she showed resilience and courage by sharing her story and demanding justice for the crimes committed against her. This incident is a powerful reminder of the ongoing impact of domestic violence and the urgent need for resources to support victims and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. With her strength and determination, Morgan continues to advocate for herself and others who have faced similar abuse.
