60-year-old Disneyland employee dies after tragic golf cart accident while on the job

Bonnye Mavis Lear lost her life as a result of the injuries she sustained

A 60-year-old Disneyland employee died in a golf cart accident.

Bonnye Mavis Lear of Fullerton, California, lost her life due to injuries sustained when she fell from a golf cart while at work.

Anaheim police confirmed that Lear fell from a moving golf cart at California’s Disneyland theme park on June 5 and hit his head.

Police added that their first responders arrived at the scene shortly before 11:30 a.m. local time because “a traffic accident had occurred backstage.”

Local news station ABC7 reported that Lear worked at Club 33, a private dining establishment in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square.

She had worked at Disneyland for 24 years.

Police added that Lear was in “critical condition” after the fall and was taken to hospital, but she died of her injuries two days later, on June 7.

PEOPLE received a statement from Ken Potrock, president of the Disneyland Resort, who expressed his regret and said he would continue to support Lear’s family.

He said: “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and would like to express our sincere condolences to all who cared for her.

“Our current focus is to support her family and our cast members through this tragic event and ensure they have the resources they need.”

X-user @just_ask_danny posted: “I used to work with Bonnye and she was literally the nicest person that worked at the Disneyland Resort. This is really very sad for her family and her fellow cast members at the club.”

Another user, @shandataber, added: “This is so sad. I didn’t know her personally, but many of my friends and coworkers did. Backstage at Disneyland is a crowded, busy area. Vehicles have a speed limit of 14 mph, but even a small accident can end tragically. Rest in peace Bonnye.”

Anaheim Police Department traffic investigators continue to investigate the accident.
