Three people arrested for attacking BJP workers

Mangaluru: The city police on Monday arrested three persons in connection with the stabbing of two BJP workers at Boliyar in Konaje police station area in Mangalore taluka of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, said Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal.

District minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that strict action would be taken against anyone who interferes in disturbing public order, regardless of political party.

The incident took place late on Sunday night when three BJP supporters passed by a mosque in Boliyar and allegedly shouted slogans. They were then chased by a group of 20 to 25 Muslim youths on motorcycles. The three stopped outside a bar, which is 2 km from the mosque, when an altercation broke out between the three, in which two of them were stabbed and another was beaten up.

The BJP workers apparently observed ‘Vijayotsava’ to celebrate the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third term.

Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said Harish (41) and Nandakumar (24), both from Innoli, were injured while Krishna Kumar was also beaten up by the group.

A large number of BJP workers then gathered in front of the Konaje police station and demanded the arrest of the suspects.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the police took video recordings of the accident scene.
