Houston apartment fire leaves dog dead, six cars destroyed and residents displaced

An apartment fire in Houston displaced several residents and resulted in the death of a dog, the Houston Fire Department reported.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 12:46 a.m. at an apartment complex on Briar Dale Ct. Upon arrival, crews found three garages engulfed in flames, which ultimately destroyed six cars parked inside.

The fire spread to one of the apartments, causing extensive smoke and water damage. The occupants of the unit concerned will be assisted by the Red Cross.

Several residents were evacuated, including a service dog. However, another dog unfortunately did not survive despite the efforts of firefighters.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by HFD arson investigators.
