Two women killed in Ned Houk Park

Two Texico women were found dead in Ned Houk Park Friday afternoon, a 5-year-old girl found with them was treated for serious injuries and authorities were searching for a 10-month-old girl believed to have been with the victims.

Police said they believe the woman’s killer abducted the child, but said there were no suspects as of Saturday morning.

Police Lt. Steven Wright identified the deceased women as Samantha Cisneros, 23, and Taryn Allen, 23, in a news release. New Mexico State Police issued an Amber Alert late Friday for toddler Eleia Maria Torres. Cisneros was the mother of both children.

The Amber Alert reported that the suspect “may have been in a maroon Honda car.”

Clovis Police Deputy Chief Trevor Thron said investigators found a car part from a maroon Honda at the scene. But he called the find “weak” as to whether it was linked to the murders.

Thron said police have no motive for the deaths. He said the women’s handbags and belongings were found with them, as well as a car belonging to one of the deceased.

Police said the five-year-old boy found with the women was covered in blood and seriously injured. The child was taken to Clovis Hospital and then transported to Lubbock, where he remained in critical condition Friday evening. There was no information about the child’s condition early Saturday morning.

Officers weren’t sure if the 5-year-old was shot, beaten or possibly hit by a car.

Thron said the missing child was a half-sibling of the 5-year-old.

Thron said police have interviewed the missing child’s father and he is “not a suspect at this time.”

“Dad came in and talked to us and he was just as shocked as everyone else,” Thron said.

The police were unable to locate the five-year-old’s father early on Saturday evening.

“No idea where he is, and of course we would like to talk to him,” Clovis Police Chief Roy Rice said Saturday morning.

Thron said no arrest warrants have been issued in connection with the case. He said investigators had “no idea” what led to the deaths.

“We know that as far as the family members knew, they were supposed to be at Walmart selling puppies,” Thron said.

“They had five puppies in their vehicle at Ned Houk. Everyone thought they were at Walmart with the puppies. We’re not sure if they went to Walmart and then went to Ned Houk, we just don’t know.”

The victims had been to the Twin Cronnies drive-in theater; Her food was left untouched in the car, Thron said.

Police also weren’t sure how a woman died. One, Rice said, was shot. The second woman may also have been shot, but investigators with the Office of Medical Investigator were trying to determine her cause of death late Friday.

Rice said an anonymous caller reported the incident but provided no further information around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The Major Crimes Unit was immediately called in to investigate, Rice said. In addition, the FBI, state police and other “specialists” rushed to assist in the investigation, officials said.

According to the City of Clovis website, Ned Houk Park is located about 5 miles north of Clovis on 3,200 acres. About 370 hectares are developed, including three lakes and several picnic areas. The park is popular with area residents who ride horses and ATVs.

The women were killed about 100 meters north of the lake, which was closest to the main entrance. Thron said authorities did not search the lake Friday but were considering a search as they continued to search for evidence Saturday.

After the bodies were discovered, police closed all entrances to the park and the park remained closed on Saturday.
