Following a complaint by the survivor – a mother of two daughters who lives in a village in Greater Noida – an initial report (FIR) was registered and a case of sexual harassment was filed at the Dadri police station on Saturday, it said.

The suspect, identified as Lakhan alias Bhagat, called her to his home or visited her house to offer prayers, asked her family members to leave her alone and sexually harassed her, the officials said, citing the woman’s complaint.

“In her police complaint, the woman claimed that her family members were expecting a son after the birth of her two daughters. With the help of relatives, she came to know about a man from Hapur, Lakhan alias Bhagat, who works as an occultist and could fulfill her wish of having a son,” said investigating officer Sub-Inspector Ashutosh Pandey.

“When the survivors’ family members contacted him, the accused outlined a plan for prayer and demanded the survivors’ cellphone number under the pretext of discussing occult practices,” the official said.

“The woman was fed up with the regular harassment and finally gathered her courage and told her husband about the ordeal,” the FIR states.

A case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Dadri police station, police said, adding that efforts are on to nab the suspect.
