Boxer Ryan Garcia arrested for alleged vandalism at Beverly Hills Hotel

Incident leads to possible charges amid personal and professional turmoil

Boxing star Ryan Garcia was arrested on Saturday for vandalism after a Beverly Hills hotel accused him of causing an estimated $15,000 in damage, Beverly Hills police said.

The Waldorf Astoria Hotel decided to press charges after police took Garcia into custody at 5:45 p.m. after receiving a call about an intoxicated guest. Hotel management has not fully disclosed the nature of the alleged vandalism, other than to say the room and a hotel hallway were damaged. Garcia posted photos on his Facebook page from late April at the hotel with Donald Trump.

Garcia apparently had a medical issue after he was arrested by BHPD and taken to Cedar Sinai Hospital for evaluation and treatment. His attorney, Darin Chavez, mentioned that Garcia could also potentially face charges for public intoxication.

In a statement released later Saturday, Chavez stressed that the arrest came at a particularly difficult time for Garcia, who was struggling with his mother’s health problems, People magazine quoted him as saying.

“Ryan has spoken openly about his mental health struggles over the years and is currently dealing with tremendous emotional distress,” Chavez said. “The support and understanding of fans and the public is critical as he navigates these personal challenges. We are working diligently to provide Ryan with the resources he needs. Our team is committed to ensuring he receives the appropriate help and care to ensure both his immediate and long-term well-being. We ask for your continued support and compassion as Ryan focuses on his family and health at this time.”

The case will likely be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. TMZ has obtained video that allegedly shows Garcia being led out of the hotel in handcuffs while wearing a bicycle helmet that obscures his face.

The incident at the Waldorf Astoria was not Garcia’s first contact with the hotel this week. Authorities had previously been called to check on his welfare after one of his relatives reported that Garcia needed assistance.

Hours before his arrest on Saturday, Garcia posted messages on the social media platform Twitter accusing people of protecting “pedophiles.”
