Two brothers die in murder-suicide in Queens. Here’s what shocked family members say happened.

NEW YORK – An apparent murder-suicide in Queens has shocked the South Asian community.

According to police, a man killed his younger brother and shot his mother before turning the gun on himself.

It was a crime scene that no one expected – the NYPD forensics team parked in front of a house on 111th Street in Richmond Hill.

Inside, police said, 33-year-old Karamjit Multani shot and killed his younger brother, 27-year-old Vipanpal Multani, on Saturday night. Their 52-year-old mother was grazed by a bullet in the stomach and taken to Jamaica Hospital. She is said to be fine.

The family had no idea that the older brother had a gun

The brothers’ father told CBS New York exclusively on Sunday that the family had settled down for a quiet evening of pizza, but around 10:30 p.m. his older son opened the door to his brother’s room and shot him without warning.

As more bullets flew, the father managed to escape. He ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911. When the neighbor entered the house, he found Vipanpal Multani shot and begging for help.

“He said to me, ‘Please don’t let me die,'” the neighbor said. “Later he died in my arms.”

In an instant, a family was destroyed. They said Karamjit, 33, was married with three young children, was financially secure and showed no signs of aggression toward his family. They also said they had no idea he had a gun.

There seemed to be no problems between the brothers

The family is trying to understand what could have led to such outrage.

“We don’t know. I don’t know,” said the father.

He said he couldn’t believe it as he cared for his injured wife and tried to cope with the shock of losing his two sons.

“No big problems. Sometimes little disagreements, no problems,” he said when asked if there were ever any problems between his sons.

“He was one of the nicest, coolest guys, always cracking jokes,” Jaspreet Singh said of Karamjit Multani. “What must have been going on in his head to make him explode like that?”

That is the big question that family, friends and the police are asking themselves.
