Michael Mosley’s wife pays tribute to her lovely husband

The wife of television and radio presenter Dr Michael Mosley has paid tribute to her “wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant” husband, whose body was found on the Greek island of Symi four days after he disappeared.

Dr Clare Bailey Mosley described the boy’s death as “devastating” in a statement confirming it.

The 67-year-old father of four disappeared on Wednesday after leaving Agios Nikolaos beach for a walk.

His body was found on Sunday on a hill near the Agia Marina beach bar.

Dr Bailey Mosley said: “We had an incredibly happy life together.

“We loved each other very much and were so happy together.”

She said she was incredibly proud of her children and that the “great love shown by people all over the world” had given her “tremendous comfort.”

The broadcaster and author received numerous honors.

Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer, said: “He was a brilliant science presenter and programme maker, able to present the most complex topics in a simple way, but he was also passionate about engaging and entertaining audiences and inspiring us all to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.”

And Dr Saleyha Ahsan, co-host of Trust Me, I’m A Doctor, told BBC News he was a “national treasure” and a “hugely talented” man.

She also praised his “passion for explaining science to a wider audience,” adding that he has “made it accessible to everyone, not just a niche audience of scientists.”

Professor Brian Cox said Dr Mosley had been a “mentor” to other science speakers.

Sophie Laurimore, director of the Soho Agency, which represented Dr Mosley, said he was a “wise, wonderful and lovely man”.

“He was immensely grateful for the public’s receptivity to the ideas he was privileged to share and to the many scientists whose work he was privileged to promote,” she added. “Michael was one of a kind.”

Judith, a teacher from Salisbury, said she has used some of Dr Mosley’s documentaries in GCSE history lessons over the past 16 years.

“He’s a history teacher’s best friend and I’m not sure he ever knew that,” she said.

Sue said Dr Mosley helped her “get through Covid – just by listening to his shows”.

“I wish I could have thanked him personally,” she added.

“We are all richer for having him in our lives.”

Dr Mosley was reported missing after leaving Agios Nikolaos beach for a walk at around 1.30pm local time (11.30am BST) on Wednesday.

Video footage showed him walking to the other side of the bay in extreme heat and over rocky terrain.

“It is a comfort to us that he almost made it,” his wife said in her statement.

“He made an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed in a spot where he could not be easily seen by the extensive search team.”

“Michael was an adventurous man, that’s part of what made him so special,” she continued.

She also thanked the “extraordinary” people on Symi who had worked “tirelessly” to find her husband.

Symi Mayor Eleftherios Papakalodouka said the body was found during a search by emergency teams along the coast.

The PA news agency reported that the manager of a bar found the body after the island’s mayor saw “something” on the bar’s fence and alerted staff.

A police source told BBC News that the deceased had been dead “for several days”.

Dr. Mosley was found next to a fence, about 30 minutes’ walk from the village of Pedi, where he was last seen. A forensic pathologist examined the body.

The Greek authorities had conducted an extensive search for Dr. Mosley in high temperatures.

While recovering the body, a police officer apparently broke his leg.
