Family-owned Julio’s Mexican Grill brings authentic Mexican cuisine to North Houston

With multiple locations throughout the Greater Houston area, Julio’s Mexican Grill serves authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine in Magnolia, Spring and The Woodlands.

Meet the team

Named in honor of co-owner Julio Amer, the restaurants are owned and operated by a family of cousins, including Everardo Funes, Julio Almer and Juan Carlos Almer.

The original Julio’s Mexican Grill opened in Magnolia in 2013. Due to demand for their menu, which is 80% authentic Mexican and 20% Tex-Mex, the restaurant expanded with a second location in The Woodlands in 2018, followed by a third location. in spring 2022, Funes said.

Funes said the locations were chosen in communities where they believed traffic would bring customers. Funes manages the Spring location while Julio Almer operates The Woodlands restaurant and Juan Carlos Almer takes care of the Magnolia location.

On the menu

Julio’s Mexican Grill offers authentic, homemade Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes with tortillas made from scratch.

“We wanted it to look like our grandmother’s kitchen,” Funes said.

With 25 years of experience, Chef Alvaro Quevedo offers Mexican cuisine inspired by the Mexican flavors of the Yucatan family.

“The inspiration was to bring something from our country; all three of us are from Mexico, from the Yucatan. So it’s like a specific region with a lot of flavors and a lot of different things,” Funes said.

Some customer favorites include chili con queso, birria tacos, fajitas and Mexican pizza, made with taco al pastor ingredients.

In addition to a wide selection of appetizers, tacos, fajitas, combo plates, seafood and enchilada menus, the restaurant offers more than 10 flavors of margaritas and a full bar.

Stay local

In addition to serving quality food, the restaurant also strives to offer reasonable prices and provide the best service, Funes said.

Some of the restaurant’s deals include free meals for children under 12 with the purchase of any entree on Sundays, fajitas for two for $29.99 on Mondays, half-price tacos on Tuesdays and a free margarita with the purchase of two on Thursday.

Funes said Julio’s Mexican Grill maintains its community involvement by hosting catering events, hosting spirit nights and sponsoring local schools, including Klein Collins High School and Roth Elementary School.
