This week, the first weather warnings for extreme heat were issued in Arizona

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Temperatures in Phoenix are once again above normal for this time of year, with highs of around 41 degrees Sunday afternoon.

That’s a bit cooler than Thursday and Friday, when Phoenix reached 115 degrees Fahrenheit, but temperatures are forecast to reach 110 degrees Fahrenheit again this week.

As a high pressure system forms in the region, temperatures will rise sharply. Our weather team has issued the first extreme heat advisory days for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, issued by the National Weather Service for central and southern Arizona and northwestern Mohave County.

A week-long low extending into the southeastern corner of the state caused temperatures to “cool slightly” today and yesterday, with overnight lows dropping to near 80 degrees in Phoenix, mid-70s in surrounding areas and 60 degrees in the mountainous regions at higher elevations.

Clouds will clear overnight and Monday will be mostly sunny with highs of 40 degrees Celsius in Phoenix.

Windy afternoons are expected over the next few days and due to the high pressure ridge, temperatures are likely to reach 43 degrees and more from Tuesday to Thursday.

We have a hot week ahead of us, so make sure you stay hydrated and have somewhere to cool off.
