JSO: 2 arrested for murder of 14-year-old in Sherwood Forest area

On New Year’s Day, officers found 14-year-old Micah Thomas with a gunshot wound on Castle Boulevard.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Three people, including a 16-year-old, are in court in connection with a Shooting on New Year’s Day in which a 14-year-old was killedaccording to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

On January 1st at approximately 6:10 p.m., officers responded to a call in the 9000 block of Castle Boulevard regarding a person being shot.

When officers arrived, they found 14-year-old Micah Thomas suffering from a gunshot wound. Jacksonville Fire Department transported Thomas to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The JSO homicide and crime scene investigators as well as the public prosecutor’s office went to the crime scene to conduct their respective investigations.

Detectives reviewed evidence and additional information and eventually identified three suspects.

According to police, Rian Brown (16) and Isaiah Conner (23) are charged with murder in connection with Thomas’ shooting death. Lamaya Gillis (20) is charged with aiding and abetting Thomas’ murder, according to police.

Conner was arrested Thursday and is also charged with armed robbery, according to jail records.

News from First Coast has chosen to establish the defendant’s identity despite Brown’s juvenile status because the crimes for which he was arrested and charged were serious.

The arrests were announced hours after two teenagers were shot dead in a Northside apartment complex.
