Officer injured while responding to burglary, police say

ATLANTA — A police officer is recovering from minor injuries after being hurt during a fight with a burglary suspect Sunday morning.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers went to a dollar tree on Ralph D Abernathy Blvd SW around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, an officer saw a suspect leaving the scene with a bag of books. The police officer then attempted to arrest the suspect, but he physically resisted. Police said this resulted in a fight, which led to the officer using his Taser.

The police officer then managed to arrest the suspect. Police said the officer suffered minor injuries, but his life was not in danger.

A witness gave other officers a description of a second male suspect, and officers were able to arrest a second suspect at a nearby gas station. Both suspects were in possession of stolen merchandise from the business and face charges, police said.
