Man in jail after killing kitten while under the influence of drugs, police say – Greeley Tribune

A man is in Weld County Jail after police say he killed a kitten last month while allegedly under the influence of LSD.

According to an affidavit accompanying his arrest on May 25, police arrested 29-year-old Mohommod Jubai on suspicion of aggravated cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after police found him screaming in the street following the incident.

At around 2 a.m., Greeley police responded to a report of suspicious activity in the 2400 block of Alpine Avenue. Dispatch reports indicated that a man had just killed a cat and was standing outside a home screaming.

When officers arrived, they heard the man – identified as Jubair – and found him down the street from the house. Police say Jubair had blood on his mouth and clothing and he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police attempted to arrest Jubair for disturbing the peace, but he resisted and attempted to fight one of the officers, police said. Police took Jubair to the ground, where he continued to resist, according to the affidavit.

As Jubair lay on the ground, he put his thumb in his mouth and bit so hard that the police thought he was going to bite it off. They finally got him under control and handcuffed him with two pairs of handcuffs.

Police spoke to a witness who told them she was smoking marijuana and watching a movie with Jubair. When the movie was over, she escorted him out of her house. Her roommate’s orange kitten ran outside.

The witness grabbed the kitten and went inside, whereupon Jubair, according to her, reacted extremely hostilely, snatched the kitten from her and began to strangle it with both hands while screaming.

The screaming woke the kitten’s owner, who told police that Jubair was strangling the kitten and trying to bite it in the face when she came outside. She told police that she saw the kitten’s body go limp, and both witnesses went inside and called police because they feared for their lives, according to the affidavit.

She had rescued the kitten, whom she named Simba, just a month earlier.

Police later found the kitten’s body. The kitten’s spine appeared to be broken. The kitten also had an apparent bite mark on its face and was missing an eyeball, police said.

Jubair was later taken to a hospital where he consumed acid, according to the affidavit.

He was medically examined and taken to the Weld County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in Weld District Court on July 25.
