THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Saturday suspended a sergeant in connection with an incident in which he assaulted a patient and another sergeant.

Juraij was suspended. The decision followed the instruction of Health Minister Veena George to the hospital to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

The incident was a brawl between security personnel of the hospital. Senior Sergeant AL Shamjeer, who was in charge of security duties, was attacked. The altercation escalated from an argument involving security personnel Juraij, who had attacked a patient a few days ago.

The footage, dated May 16, shows Juraij physically attacking Sreekumar, a resident of Mannamoola. The argument started in a WhatsApp group for sergeants, where Senior Sergeant Shamjeer, who is also the secretary of the association, asked the members to maintain decorum. This led to Juraij attacking Shamjeer. It is reported that Juraij kicked Shamjeer when they were in the security office.
