Names of terrorists who attacked an Air Force convoy in J&K’s Poonch and pictures released

All three terrorists reportedly used high-powered assault rifles

New Delhi:

Photographs have been released – from CCTV footage – of three terrorists believed to be involved in the attack on an air force convoy in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir last week that killed Corporal Vikky Pahade and injured four of his colleagues became.

All three reportedly used high-powered assault rifles, US-made M4s and Russian-made AK-47s, in the attack. It was the first major attack of the year in an area where there were several terrorist attacks on military targets last year.

The three were identified as Illiyas, a former Pakistan Army commando commander, a Pakistani terrorist named Hadoon (or Hadun) and Abu Hamza, the codename of the commander of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.

According to a sketch by the J&K Police, Hamza is described as a 30-32-year-old man of medium build and fair complexion with a close-cropped haircut.

He was last seen wearing a Pathani suit with a brown scarf and carrying an orange bag.

A reward of Rs 10 lakh has been offered for information leading to his arrest.

The attack on the IAF convoy on May 4 followed numerous terror attacks in Poonch and Rajouri areas in the last few weeks. In one of the attacks – in Shadra Sharief district of Rajouri – a 40-year-old man, a government employee, was shot dead outside a mosque.

Mohammad Razak, 40, worked with the social welfare office and his attackers used a US-made M4 assault rifle and also a pistol.

His brother, a Territorial Army soldier, was with him during the attack. The terrorists tried to kidnap him but he managed to escape unhurt, a senior official said.

Security officials said the terrorist codenamed Abu Hamza was behind this attack.

Poonch is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, which will vote in the sixth phase – on May 25 – of the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

These attacks came after two non-locals – a migrant worker from Bihar and a man from Dehradun – were attacked in Anantnag and Herpora areas of Shopian district.
