One dead after motorcycle collides with deer in Marion

MARION, Ohio (WCMH) – A woman is dead and a man is seriously injured after a motorcycle struck a deer in western Marion County early Sunday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 12:18 a.m. Sunday on State Route 37.


A 2018 Harley Davidson was traveling north on SR-37. A 51-year-old Marion man was riding with Danielle N. McCormack, 38, of LaRue as a passenger. Police said the motorcycle struck a deer that ran into the road, causing the motorcycle to tip onto its side.

Both victims were initially taken to Marion General Hospital before being flown to Grant Medical Center. McCormack had life-threatening injuries while the driver suffered serious injuries. McCormack was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, neither of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scioto Valley Fire and Rescue Department and the Marion Township Emergency Services.
