Car hangs after accident in Lake Forest caused by water hammer from a sheared hydrant

A two-car accident in Orange County ended in a bizarre way on Saturday: One of the vehicles was held in the air by a broken fire hydrant.

The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. near Jeronimo Road and Heidi Avenue, according to a Contribution to X from the Orange County Fire Authority.

When the firefighters arrived, they found one of the two cars involved in the accident in a place where a fire hydrant had previously been located. The rear end was floating with its feet in the air due to the powerful water gushing out.

All occupants of both vehicles left their cars without help from the fire department and were taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment, firefighters said.

They could have reduced the water flow and lowered the car before turning the water off completely, the post said.

What caused the crash is unclear.
