9-year-old girl raped while guarding her father’s farm in Kaduna

A 9-year-old girl who was guarding her father’s farm was allegedly raped in Akilibu village, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the victim, along with her younger sister, was guarding her father’s farm from goats.

The minor’s father, Muhammadu Kabiru, recounted the incident in a telephone conversation with our reporter yesterday, explaining that while most of the animals in the community were guarded, some of them were still roaming freely.

He said: “A community leader in the village advised me to always look after the farm during the day. I instructed my two daughters to look after the farm on Saturdays but unfortunately a member of our community, one Aminu, who is married and has two children, dragged one of them, a nine-year-old, and raped her.

“She suffered a fracture to one hand and injuries to her intimate area. She is currently being treated in hospital.”

He said the suspect was arrested and taken to the police station in the township the next day.

Meanwhile, a human rights activist and official of the Human Right Network, Nigeria, an Abuja-based non-governmental organization, Comrade Nura Muktar, who first reported the incident to City & Crime, said the group would pursue the case to its logical conclusion.
