A suspect is in custody after an off-duty officer shot an intruder during an attempted burglary in Reading Sunday morning.

Reading police were called to the 1700 block of Keith Road around 5:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired, according to Kyla Woods, a spokeswoman for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

When they arrived, they found that the sheriff’s office deputy was on his way home from work and found an intruder in his home.

During the confrontation between the deputy and the intruder, the deputy fired shots from his personal weapon, Woods said.

Woods said the sheriff’s office is unsure if the intruder was grazed by the gunshot.

The suspect fled the scene and was later arrested by Cincinnati police.

Woods said Hamilton County officials have a suspect in custody and that person is being held for questioning.

Hamilton County officials are still investigating the case.
