MSP investigates shooting on Lodge Highway that left two people hospitalized

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two people were hospitalized after a shooting closed a portion of the Detroit freeway early Sunday morning.

According to Michigan State Police, the Detroit Regional Communications Center received a call about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning about a single-vehicle crash on northbound Lodge Road near McNichols. The caller stated he had been shot at and was hiding.

Emergency responders found the callers’ vehicles had bullet holes in them. The two people in the car, the 18-year-old driver from West Bloomfield and the 19-year-old passenger from Southfield, had gunshot wounds to their arms and were taken to the hospital in serious condition at times.

Another accident occurred as a result of the first accident when another driver rammed the abandoned suspect vehicle. That driver suffered minor accident injuries, according to police.

This section of the motorway was closed overnight for an MSP investigation into the incident.

“Investigators are continuing to search for evidence and interview witnesses,” F/Lt Mike Shaw stated in a thread on X about the incident. “Currently we are working to determine exactly what happened and who the possible suspect is. If you have any information, call 855.MICH.TIP or Crime Stoppers at 800 SPEAK.UP.”
