Investigations are underway after a Fort Sill soldier was found dead over the weekend

An investigation is currently underway after a soldier from Fort Sill was found dead in his room over the weekend.

According to Fort Sill officials, Private Second Class Maverick McDowell was found unconscious in his room on Saturday. McDowell was assigned to the 30th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.

Officials say McDowell’s cause of death was not related to COVID-19 or any field training, but the official cause of death has not been announced.

According to officials, he had been taking a professional development course since taking office in November 2020.

Major General Ken Kamper said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our Fort Sill teammates. We extend our deepest condolences to McDowell’s family, friends and fellow soldiers.”
