Gun safety advocates wear orange this weekend to help raise awareness

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Gun safety advocates this weekend in Western New York are joining a national awareness effort by wearing orange.

The New York chapter of Moms Demand Action hosted a gardening event at Frida’s Garden on Orange Street in Buffalo to help raise awareness. 2 On Your Side spoke with volunteers who said they spent the weekend working to honor victims and survivors in our area.

“We are an organization that wants to educate and help people understand that we can do better,” said Dr. Allison Freeman, volunteer director of Everytown for Gun Safety. “No one needs to lose their guns. We just need to learn how to keep them safe and recognize the role guns play in suicide and the loss of children in America.”

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia told Claudine Ewing on Friday that shootings are down this year compared to 2023’s record number.
