2024/2025 Admission Exercise: UNILAG suspends two programmes, sends message to UTME candidates

  • UNILAG has suspended its Biochemistry and Petroleum and Gas Engineering courses for the 2024/2025 academic year and admission to these courses will not be offered until further notice.
  • The university had advised UTME and Direct Entry candidates to choose alternative programmes
  • Applicants who have already applied for the affected degree programs have been instructed to switch to other degree programs.

Lagos, Nigeria – The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced that it will not offer two degree programmes – Biochemistry and Petroleum and Gas Engineering – in the 2024/2025 academic year and until further notice.

In a statement Legit.ngUNILAG Registrar, Olakunle E. Makinde, advised prospective UTME and Direct Entry candidates to opt for alternative programmes as admission will not be given into the suspended programmes.

UTME 2024: Course change can be requested

Meanwhile, Makinde said candidates who had already applied for the affected programmes had been instructed to switch to other courses.

No reasons were given for the suspension of the programs.

The full statement reads:

“All prospective UTME and Direct Entry candidates for the 2024 admission exercise should note that the University of Lagos will not be offering two degree programmes, namely Biochemistry and Petroleum and Gas Engineering. Therefore, there will be no admission into the two degree programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year and until further notice.

“Applicants are hereby advised not to choose any of these courses and those who have done so should switch to other courses.”

UNILAG introduces double degree certificate program

According to another report, UNILAG has started issuing dual certificates in a new program called Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Business Incubation Certification (EIBIC).

The Federal University’s Deputy Chancellor for Development Services, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, explained that the students would receive a double certificate upon graduation.

He explained that the EIBIC programme was approved by the UNILAG Senate and was designed to address socio-economic gaps in Nigeria.
