Edo Assembly Speaker suspends three lawmakers over alleged impeachment plans

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Representatives, Blessing Agbebaku, yesterday suspended three lawmakers over an alleged conspiracy to impeach him and other senior officials.

They are Donald Okogbe (PDP, Akoko Edo11), Bright Iyamu (PDP, Orhionmwon South) and Adeh Isibor (PDP Esan North East 1). At the resumption of the plenary session, Agbebaku alleged that the three suspended members were being influenced by external forces to cause chaos and overthrow the leadership of the House. He also alleged that some people brought local doctors to the assembly complex at midnight on May 1 to perform spells.

As they responded during the heated session, the three suspended MPs shouted: “Mr. Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend members of the House of Representatives.” “You must call for a vote. Allow members to vote on the matter.
