Four people, including an 11-year-old girl, were hospitalized after a ride apparently malfunctioned at a country music show in Lambeth, south London, authorities said.

The incident occurred at around 6.20pm (BST) in Brockwell Park. According to Lambeth Council, emergency services arrived shortly afterwards.

“The area around the attraction has been secured and the entertainment district has been closed,” the city council said in a statement.

An investigation has been launched to “determine the cause of the disruption,” the council added.

The Metropolitan Police in Lambeth wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the other injured were a man and a woman in their 40s and a man in his 50s.

The Met added that none of the injured were in critical condition.

The police had previously told X that no one had been trapped during the journey.

Barriers have been set up and the occupational safety authority will be informed, police said.

Additional security checks will be carried out on all rides and attractions in the show, Lambeth City Council said.

The incident occurred on the 50th anniversary of the Lambeth Country Show, which, according to its website, is one of the “largest free family festivals in the UK”.

Brockwell Park is a popular green space near Brixton in south London.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said four ambulance crews and members of the hazardous area response team were on duty.

In addition, a rescue helicopter was sent to the scene of the accident, the spokesman said.

All four people injured by the apparent malfunction of the ride were taken to “major trauma centers,” it said.
