Fighting in Napa County claims one life

One man was shot dead and at least two other people are in critical condition in a brawl on Saturday in Napa County on the shores of Lake Berryessa, authorities said.

The brawl broke out around 5:30 p.m. at the popular Oak Shores Day Use Area on the eastern shore of the 16-mile-long lake, said Henry Wofford, spokesman for the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

An adult man was shot during the altercation, Wofford said, and two other people were stabbed and “airlifted to local hospitals in a fight for their lives.”

He said “several” other people were stabbed and taken to hospital by ambulance or driven by friends or family members.

Few other details are known so far, including what sparked the fight, which is currently under investigation, Wofford said. The Oak Shores Day Use Area is located in the 5500 block of Knoxville Road.

At 9 p.m., investigators were still on site interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence, Wofford said.

“It’s going to be a very long night as we investigate and get to the bottom of this,” he said.

There had been no arrests as of 9 p.m., he said.

The sheriff’s office is being assisted in the investigation by the county’s major crimes task force, he said.
