BARNSTABLE, MASS. (WHDH) – A correctional officer with the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on charges of assaulting an inmate last month, authorities said.

Gregory Djaoen, 38, was arrested Saturday after investigators reviewed surveillance video that included a report from a former inmate of an assault that occurred at the Barnstable House of Corrections between May 25 and 26.

Djaoen will be arraigned in Falmouth District Court on Monday. He is charged with assault, two counts of assault, assault with a dangerous weapon and intimidation of a witness.

District Attorney Galibois contacted New Bedford Police Chief Paul Oliveira to request that Mr. Djaoen’s firearms license be revoked immediately and indefinitely in light of the charges. The Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office reiterates that all defendants are presumed innocent.
