New Lenox man killed in hit-and-run – Shaw Local

Joliet police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian.

On Saturday at 4:05 p.m., Joliet police received a call about a hit-and-run crash at the corner of Washington and Ottawa streets in Joliet and that a 21-year-old New Lenox man was lying on the ground at the intersection, according to a Joliet police news release.

When Joliet police arrived, it was determined that the man had succumbed to his injuries, the release said. From witness statements, Joliet police learned that the man had been struck by a semi-truck and continued south on Ottawa Street, the release said.

The man’s identity was not disclosed.

Joliet police learned the man had just been released from the Will County Detention Center and are now searching for the tractor-trailer, the news release said.

The area of ​​Washington Street and Ottawa Street will remain closed until Joliet police investigate the accident scene, the release said. Joliet police advise motorists to use alternate routes and avoid the area, the release said.
