HAIGLER – No injuries were reported when a tractor-trailer hauling an excavator went off the rails at a railroad crossing near mile marker 2 on U.S. Highway 34 and was struck by a BNSF train in Dundy County Friday morning.

According to the Dundy County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the semi-truck was able to exit his vehicle before being struck by the locomotive at 11:43 a.m. BNSF employees on the train managed to find shelter in the locomotive.

The tractor-trailer, trailer, excavator and at least one BNSF machine appeared to have significant, disabling damage.

The Haigler and Benkelman fire departments and Dundy County ambulance also arrived at the scene.
