17-year-old man in critical condition after dirt bike accident

VALDOSTA – Valdosta Police responded to a dirt bike accident involving a 17-year-old male who is in critical condition.

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 9:07 p.m., Valdosta Police Officers, Valdosta Fire Departments and SGMC Emergency Medical Services responded to the area of ​​Pineview Drive and Deborah Drive after numerous citizens called E911 to report a single-person traffic accident Dirt bike. When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered that a 17-year-old male, later identified as the driver of the dirt bike, was unresponsive at the scene. First responders immediately administered first aid to the man and he was transported to SGMC.

Members of the Valdosta Police Department Traffic Unit responded to conduct the investigation. Through investigation, officers determined that the 17-year-old was traveling on Deborah Drive while a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old male was traveling on Pineview Drive. The dirt bike entered the intersection and struck the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver of the dirt bike was taken to a Florida hospital where he remains in critical condition. It was reported that a passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The case is still under investigation.

“Our prayers go out to everyone involved in and affected by this tragic accident. As temperatures warm, we see an increase in dirt bikes and ATVs hitting our roads. When driving any of these vehicles, please ensure they are road legal and that all passengers are wearing helmets,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.
