MBI investigates police-involved shooting in Corinth

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Corinth, Mississippi, involving the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on June 8.

Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office officers responded to a 911 call on County Road 575 in Corinth, Mississippi at approximately 3:30 p.m.


The first officer to arrive at the scene observed a white man hitting a white woman, later identified as his mother, on the head with an object.

The officer gave verbal commands and deployed his taser, but it had no effect on the offender. When the offender continued to strike his mother’s head, the officer fired his service weapon, striking the male offender.

The female victim was picked up by ambulance and later flown to North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

The male suspect was transported to Magnolia Regional Health Center.

The officers involved did not suffer any serious physical injuries.

The MBI says this information is preliminary and subject to change. The MBI is currently investigating this incident and gathering evidence.

After completing the investigation, the MBI agents would pass on their findings to the Attorney General’s Office.
