Cyclist and motorist die in fiery accident near Hamilton

From Tribune staff reports

Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash involving a bicyclist around 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7, according to Senior Trooper Cody Farrar of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

“Carl R. Blewett, 54, of Kents Store, Virginia, was fatally injured when the bicycle he was riding was struck by the 2009 GMC Sierra driven by 61-year-old Carroll R. Parker of Lynn,” Farrar said. “The Sierra then left the road, struck a tree and caught fire.”

Farrar said Blewett and Parker were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred on US 278 near the 10 mile marker, about a mile east of Hamilton, in Marion County. No further information is available as ALEA Highway Patrol Division officers continue to investigate.
