Four people in hospital after accident on London fairground ride

According to police, four people were taken to hospital after a ride broke down in south London.

At least four ambulances were dispatched to the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park at around 6.20pm as the fair was closed to visitors. A rescue helicopter was sent to the park, as was a hazardous area response team.

Police said they were awaiting further details on the condition of the four people. “No one is trapped on the ride,” the statement continued.

Lambeth Council described the incident as “serious” and launched an investigation into the cause of the disturbance.

Witnesses told MailOnline that people were “thrown through the air” during the journey and that it was a scene where “all hell broke loose”.

“People ran towards us and was crying and screaming,” said an eyewitness. “I saw a woman with blood all over her face. She was being carried out of the attraction by paramedics.”

Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, said she was “shocked” to learn of the ride’s cancellation. She added: “My thoughts are with those injured.”
