Four people taken to hospital after ride breaks down at Lambeth Country Show

Four people had to be taken to hospital after a ride malfunctioned at the Lambeth Country Show. The serious incident was described as “like something out of a horror film”.

Emergency services were alerted at around 6:20 p.m. when the attraction in Brockwell Park, south London, malfunctioned on Saturday.

Four people were injured and taken to hospital. The Metropolitan Police said it was awaiting an assessment of their condition, adding that no one was trapped on the journey.

An eyewitness reported MailOnline: “People were running towards us, crying and screaming… We saw a woman with blood all over her face. Paramedics were carrying her off the attraction.

“When we left, they were putting up higher fences where someone was lying on the ground. Paramedics were treating him. The higher fences were wrapped in black sheets so you couldn’t see anything. Someone was seriously injured and they were giving him privacy.”

Another said: “I was told that an attraction collapsed and all hell broke loose. It was horrific. The screams were terrible. Four people flew off and through the air. It was like a horror film.”

Police said an investigation into the incident was ongoing and the area was cordoned off.

Police added that the Occupational Safety and Health Authority would be informed.

Lambeth Council described the incident as “serious” and said it was “thoroughly” investigating the cause of the malfunction of one of the rides.

A council spokesman added: “The situation is being closely monitored. The area around the attraction is secured and the fairground has been closed… Additional safety inspections are being carried out on all rides and attractions at the show.”
