Suspect in mass murder on K Street in Sacramento dies in prison cell

(FOX40.COM) — The 29-year-old man found dead in the Sacramento County Jail has been identified by law enforcement sources as a suspect in connection with the 2022 K Street mass shooting.

Officials said Smiley Martin was found dead in his cell around 2 a.m. Saturday. He was a suspect in a shooting in Sacramento near 10th and K streets that left 18 people shot and six dead on April 3, 2022. The area was known for its lively nightlife.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of death is currently under investigation.
